  • Conduct research to determine the tax impact and consequences of proposed business activities in the U.S. and abroad.Assist the Director, Corporate Taxes in designing tax strategy and structure for various domestic and international transactions undertaken by the Company.
  • Consult with other departments on transactions, contracts, business arrangements, etc. being considered by the Company.
  • Assist in key decision-making on various day-to-day tax issues arising from all areas of the Company.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with IRC Section 883 on a quarterly basis, which exempts international shipping income from federal income tax.
  • Prepare tax provision, estimated tax payments and FASB 109 accounting for income taxes.
  • Review federal and state tax returns prepared in-house as well as those prepared by outside tax advisors.
  • Serve as a supporting liaison with outside tax counsel and tax professionals, and monitors projects for which such individuals are engaged.
  • Assist with the representation of the Company before taxing authorities, and the negotiation of settlements on behalf of the Company.
  • Research various tax issues/special projects, develops recommendations for senior managements consideration.
  • Monitors case law and tax legislation, and advises of potential impact any changes may have on the Company.
  • Assists in performing tax due diligence of any potential acquisition candidate.
  • Perform any other tax related research or compliance functions determined to be necessary.
  Requirements:
 
  • Experience: 5 - 7 years experience at a national or international public accounting firm and 3+ years experience in a senior position in an in-house corporate tax department
  • Education: Master of Science in Taxation
  • Hardware: Typical PC skills
  • Software: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, on-line research tools
  • Certifications: Certified Public Accountant
  • Skills: Strong analytical and reasoning skills, excellent judgment and the ability to make decisions and assess acceptable levels of business risk.
  • Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, including the ability to simplify technical jargon, public speaking ability.
